Really enjoyed speaking to the London JLL sustainability team about #netzero, the Net Zero Tracker and the #CurseOfKnowledge at its Mindblower event yesterday.
I presented an explainer infographic called Worlds Apart, based on the IPCC's Special Report on 1.5°C report which helped to kick #netzero into the mainstream and boardrooms the world over.
A question came up more than once: which of the three possible worlds are we currently tracking against?
The (1) 'Late, Uncoordinated Action' red world or the (2) 'Delayed, Decisive Action' orange world? Might there be, as the orange world portrays, an emergency summit in 2025 which *suddenly moves the world to much more ambitious climate targets* after a series of devastating heatwaves further exacerbated by a period of high internal natural variability or an El Nino phase? There is, according to NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, a 62% chance of El Nino developing sometime between May and July.
One thing's for sure, we're not tracking against the (3) 'Early, Effective Action' green world. The full infographic in the 6 official UN languages: https://lnkd.in/eCaRJ7jx
Absolute pleasure working on this with Sonia Seneviratne, Joeri Rogelj, Anna Pirani, Melissa Ines Gomis, Sarah Connors, Tim Waterfield and Melissa Walsh. Completely agree we should (s)roll this one out more, Kimberly Nicholas.
